The rain came down in sheets against the floor-to-ceiling windows of the penthouse, turning the city skyline into a blurred watercolor of neon and shadow. Elena should have been grading the quarterly reports spread across her dining table, but her gaze kept drifting to the man standing at the window, his back to her, one hand braced against the glass.

Liam Callahan. Her boss. The architect of her professional success and, for the past eight months, the unwilling star of every fantasy she tried to suppress.

He shouldn't be here. He should have been at the company gala, shaking hands and charming investors. Instead, he'd shown up at her door an hour ago, soaked to the bone, his usually immaculate dark hair plastered to his forehead, his tailored suit a ruin. *I didn't know where else to go,* he'd said, and the rawness in his voice had undone her.

Now he stood in her living room, wearing a pair of gray sweatpants she'd bought for an ex-boyfriend who'd never deserved them and a white t-shirt that clung to the broad planes of his chest. The domesticity of it was almost more intimate than nudity.

"You're staring," he said without turning around.

Elena's cheeks flushed. "I'm trying to figure out why the CEO of Callahan Industries is dripping on my hardwood floors instead of accepting his Man of the Year award."

He laughed, but there was no humor in it. When he finally turned, his green eyes were dark, turbulent. "Because I couldn't stand another minute of pretending."

"Pretending what?"

His jaw tightened. "That I don't think about you every goddamn second. That I don't lie awake at night remembering the way you bite your lip when you're concentrating. That I didn't promote you to senior associate because you're the best—which you are—but because I wanted an excuse to be near you."

The words hit her like a physical blow. Eight months of careful professionalism, of stolen glances across conference tables, of fingers brushing when he handed her documents, of dreams she'd never admit to anyone. Eight months of telling herself she was imagining the tension that crackled between them.

"Liam—"

"Don't." He held up a hand, his voice rough. "Don't tell me I'm your boss. I know. I know the ethics, the power dynamics, all of it. I've given myself a hundred reasons to stay away. But tonight, watching you across the ballroom in that black dress, knowing you'd come home alone because you always come home alone, I couldn't do it anymore."

Elena rose from the table, her heart hammering against her ribs. "What do you want from me?"

He crossed the room in three strides. He was close enough now that she could smell the rain on his skin, mixed with something warm and masculine underneath. "Everything," he breathed. "I want everything. But I'll take whatever you're willing to give me."

The air between them was thick, charged. Elena's hand trembled as she reached up and pressed her palm against his chest. She could feel his heart racing beneath her fingers, a counterpoint to her own frantic pulse.

"I've wanted you for so long I don't remember what it feels like not to," she whispered.

Something broke in him then. His hands came up to cup her face, thumbs brushing her cheekbones, and he kissed her like a man drowning.

It was nothing like she'd imagined—and she'd imagined it a thousand times. It was better. His mouth was demanding but patient, coaxing her lips apart, tasting her like he was memorizing the flavor. His hands slid from her face to her hair, tilting her head to deepen the kiss, and she moaned against his tongue.

"Elena," he murmured against her lips. "God, Elena."

She fisted her hands in his t-shirt, pulling him closer. The heat of his body seeped through the thin cotton, and she could feel the hard length of him against her hip. A fresh wave of arousal pooled low in her belly.

"Bedroom," she managed.

He pulled back just enough to look at her, his pupils blown wide, his lips slick and swollen. "Are you sure?"

"I've never been more sure of anything."

The bedroom was dim, lit only by the glow of the city filtering through the blinds. Elena's hands shook as she unbuttoned her blouse, but Liam caught her wrists.

"Let me," he said, his voice a low rumble.

He undressed her slowly, reverently, like she was something precious. Each button, each zipper, each inch of skin revealed was accompanied by a kiss—her collarbone, the valley between her breasts, the soft curve of her stomach. By the time she stood before him in nothing but her underwear, she was trembling with need.

"Beautiful," he breathed, stepping back to look at her. "You have no idea how many meetings I sat through, trying not to imagine this."

"Show me," she said. "Stop talking and show me."

He stripped off his t-shirt in one fluid motion, and Elena's mouth went dry. She'd seen him in tailored suits for months, but the reality of his body—the broad shoulders, the defined chest, the trail of dark hair disappearing into his waistband—was something else entirely.

He hooked his thumbs into the waistband of the sweatpants and pushed them down, stepping out of them. His erection strained against his boxer briefs, thick and prominent, and Elena felt a fresh surge of heat.

"Like what you see?" His smile was crooked, almost shy.

"Get on the bed," she ordered.

He laughed, a real laugh this time, and obeyed. He stretched out on her sheets, all lean muscle and tan skin, and reached for her.

Elena climbed onto the bed and straddled him, her thighs bracketing his hips. The contact of his erection against her still-clothed core made them both groan. She ground against him experimentally, and his hands flew to her hips, gripping hard.

"Elena—"

She leaned down and kissed him, swallowing whatever he'd been about to say. His hands roamed her back, unhooking her bra with practiced ease, and she shrugged it off, letting it fall to the floor. His palms covered her breasts, thumbs brushing her nipples, and she gasped into his mouth.

"God, yes," she breathed.

He rolled them over, pinning her beneath him, and looked down at her with an intensity that made her feel exposed in the best possible way. "I want to taste every inch of you."

He started at her neck, kissing and nipping a path down to her collarbone, then lower. When his mouth closed over her nipple, she arched off the bed, fingers tangling in his hair. He sucked and teased, alternating between breasts until she was writhing beneath him, desperate for more.

"Please," she begged. "Liam, please."

He kissed his way down her stomach, pausing to dip his tongue into her navel, then lower still. When he reached the waistband of her panties, he looked up at her, asking permission with his eyes.

"Yes," she said. "God, yes."

He peeled the lace down her legs, leaving her completely bare. For a moment, he just looked at her—the most intimate part of her—and she felt a flicker of self-consciousness. But then he lowered his head and pressed a kiss to her inner thigh, and all coherent thought fled.

His tongue found her clit, and Elena cried out, her hips bucking. He held her down with one hand splayed across her stomach and worked her with his mouth, long, slow strokes that built the pressure inside her. When he slid one finger inside her, then two, she was lost.

"So wet for me," he murmured against her. "So fucking perfect."

The combination of his tongue and fingers was devastating. Elena felt the orgasm building, a coil of tension winding tighter and tighter. She gripped the sheets, her breath coming in short, sharp gasps.

"I'm going to—" she started.

"Come for me," he commanded. "Let go, Elena."

And she did. The orgasm crashed over her, wave after wave of pleasure that left her shaking and gasping. Liam worked her through it, gentling his touch as she came down, then kissing his way back up her body.

She could taste herself on his lips when he kissed her. "That was—" she started, but couldn't find the words.

"Just the beginning," he promised.

He shed his boxer briefs, and Elena's eyes widened. He was thick and long, curving slightly upward, the head slick with pre-cum. She reached for him, wrapping her fingers around his shaft, and he groaned, thrusting into her grip.

"I want you inside me," she said.

He hesitated. "I don't have—"

"On the pill. I'm clean. I got tested last month."

"So am I," he said. "But are you sure?"

She answered by pulling him down on top of her and guiding him to her entrance. He pushed inside slowly, inch by inch, and Elena gasped at the stretch. He was bigger than she'd expected, and it had been a while.

"Okay?" he asked, his voice strained.

"More than okay. Don't stop."

He began to move, a steady rhythm that quickly built in intensity. Elena wrapped her legs around his waist, changing the angle, and they both groaned at the new sensation.

"You feel incredible," he panted. "So tight, so hot."

"Harder," she demanded. "I won't break."

He obliged, driving into her with a force that made the headboard bang against the wall. Elena dug her nails into his back, arching up to meet every thrust. The pleasure was overwhelming, building again despite her recent orgasm.

"Liam—"

"I know," he said. "I'm close too. Come with me."

He reached between them and found her clit, rubbing tight circles as he continued to thrust. The dual stimulation was too much, and Elena felt herself tipping over the edge again.

"Now," she cried. "God, now!"

She clenched around him, and Liam followed, burying himself deep as his own release hit. He groaned her name, his body shuddering, and collapsed on top of her.

For a long moment, they lay tangled together, breathing hard. The rain had stopped, and the room was quiet save for the distant hum of the city.

Finally, Liam rolled off her, pulling her against his side. "Well," he said, his voice hoarse. "That was definitely worth getting fired for."

Elena laughed, the sound bubbling up from somewhere deep. "You won't get fired. You own the company."

"Right. Well, then you won't get fired."

She propped herself up on his chest, looking down at him. "What happens now?"

He tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, his expression softening. "I don't know. But I know I don't want to pretend anymore."

"Me either."

He kissed her forehead. "Stay with me tonight. And tomorrow. And the day after that."

"That's a lot of days."

"I'm a patient man."

She smiled, settling back against him. "Good. Because I think we're going to need a lot of them."

The city hummed outside the window, indifferent to the two people tangled in each other's arms, finally giving in to the forbidden attraction that had been building for months. And as Elena drifted off to sleep, listening to the steady beat of Liam's heart, she knew that whatever came next, she wouldn't be facing it alone.
